I have to admit, I feel kind of strange writing a post for first time small business owners, because I myself am still a beginner in this small business world.....which of course means that I am still learning. However, I want to write down any tips that I have learned so far to help others who are in the beginning stages of their business...or for those who are just starting to think about starting a business.
Of course I have a lot of learning to do and I guarantee there are others out there with way better advice than what I have, but at least I'm relatable to other beginners right?!
So here are some of my tips for beginners who are starting their small business
Get a good Planner & Notebook
- I feel like planners and notebooks are on my lists for just about everything, but it's so true!! Having a good planner & notebook can help you stay nice and organized with your business. Everyone is different and there are so many options out there that you will have to find what works for you best. Just find an awesome planner to keep you on track everyday and a good notebook to write all your ideas down.
Do Brain Dumps Weekly
- This one is a new trick that I stumbled upon recently. I was feeling overwhelmed with life and business. I felt that I had so much on my mind and so many ideas that I just couldn't keep everything straight.... there was simply just too much weighing on my mind. Then I came across the wonderful technique of doing a brain dump. I decided that I would give it a try.... so I sat down and wrote down everything I could think of that I wanted/needed to get done. I can't tell you how good it made me feel just to get everything out and have it in one place.....not just on my mind.
Work on your business everyday
- One of my biggest issues is when I have an idea, I want everything done right then, but having a small business is a process and most time, it's a long one at that. Just be sure to work on your business everyday. Even if it is something little at least it's something. For me, some days that includes: writing a blog post, editing pictures, jotting down business ideas or simply looking up tips to help me out with business stuff.
Being a small business owner isn't easy.....it's hard work! It so easy to get overwhelmed with everything that comes along with being a small business owner that sometimes you might just feel like giving up..... But there is a reason you started in the first place, you have a passion there... don't lose it! Work hard, do what you love and great things will happen!
