The Struggle of a WAHM // Personal + Parenting

The Struggle of a WAHM // Personal + Parenting

Christy Haygood

Being a mom is absolutely the most difficult yet most rewarding job ever!

...... Being a work at home mom is even more challenging!

When I was a little girl I always had a lot of interests but I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up ...... The one thing that I did know is that I wanted to be a mommy.

After I had my first little one I had the overwhelming feeling to accomplish more in life...... to finally follow my passions and stop putting them on the back burner.  I think it was partly because I didn't want to be one of those moms that completely lost herself after kids, but also partly because I wanted to raise my kids seeing that no matter what you can always follow you dreams.

It was a struggle to start up my photography business, blog and keep up with a YouTube channel with a toddler running around, and now that we have another little one thrown into the mix it's even more challenging.

I should probably go ahead and say that this is in no way taking away from mommas (or dads) that work outside the home....I would imagine that would be just as tough! It's just that I can only relate to all those work at home mommies (or dads) out there.

It's certainly not easy to find time to feed yourself, keep up with the housework or even to sneak off to use the restroom, let alone try to get work done.  It's a constant struggle between

"I need to get this done"

"Mommy will you play with me?"

"I need to respond to emails"

"Mommy, I have to go potty"

"You need to eat your lunch"

"I don't want to go to nap"

"I haven't gotten anything marked off my to-do list"

It's hard to find a good balance between enjoying time with your little ones (I mean come on.... they grow so fast) and getting things done for your business/ passion (every parent needs to do things just for themselves....even if that means work.)

I wish I had a magic answer on how to balance everything.  I wish I could say that it is super easy to be a work at home mom, but I can't.......

What I can tell you is that it is that being a work at home mom is the most rewarding thing ever.... It's the best of both worlds.  You get to see your little ones everyday, watch them grow.  You can work in your yoga pants from your couch.  You can follow your dreams and still get plenty of cuddles throughout the day.

So, if you are a work at home mommy (or daddy) ..... Just keep doing your best.  I have a feeling that when our little ones are grown and off on their own, we will look back and say "that was one of the best decision I could have made."
